"Verbots" are the creation of Virtual Personalities, Inc. What's a
Verbot?

| A few years ago, as part of a course in computational
linguistics at Georgetown University, I took part
in a project to enhance a chatterbot with an NLP "brain." The chatterbot
we used as our model was Colin, a simplified version of Julia, a chatterbot written by Michael "Fuzzy" Mauldin at Carnegie Mellon University. We named our 'bot
"Elmo." Now, years later, Fuzzy has extended his chatterbot work into a commercial venture, with a really exceptional product named "Sylvie." Check her out. Sylvie uses a text file to control how she responds to people. To modify this file, you have to open it up in a text editor and hack at it by hand. To simplify this task a bit, I have written a little program called ViPRE (pronounced "viper"), "Virtual Personality Rule Editor." Sorry about the horrible name; if you have any suggestions, I'm all ears. ViPRE, Virtual Personality Rule Editor ViPRE is a GUI editor for Sylvie's rule files (.net files). ViPRE was written for Windows 95/98/NT using Microsoft Visual C++ 5.0. You may need some additional DLL files, but since most people have them already, I don't like to include them in the main download file. If you need them, you can get them from here.
There's no help file yet, but if you know how to script a Verbot , it should be simple to use. This is freeware, use at your own risk. I've tried to make sure that the program is as benign as possible, but at the very least you should make backup copies of your .net files first! Please feel free to contact me with questions, comments, bug reports, or offers of fame, fortune or chocolate. |
